Du 11 au 21 mai 2026 puis du 10 juin au 30 juillet, le Gemass accueille Marta ENTRADAS, Assistant Professor at ISCTE-IUL (Portugal) and Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) (UK)
Short bio
Marta Entradas is Assistant Professor at ISCTE-IUL (Portugal) and Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) (UK). Marta’s research focuses on dynamics of university communication with society, public understanding and trust in science, and scientists’ engagement with society, with a focus on international comparisons. She is PI of numerous funded projects, and coordinator of international teams, including the MORE-PE project (2016-2020), the OPEN project (2019-2023), and the PuReSC project (2026-2029). She received her PhD in Science and Technology Studies (STS) from University College London (UCL) (2011), was a Marie Curie Fellow (MSCA) at LSE and a Fulbright Scholar at Cornel University (NY). She was recognized with the ‘European Young Researcher Award’ (EYRA) (2016) by EuroScience, and by Ciência Viva in the ‘Women in Science’ book.
Stay at Gemass
This mobility project aims to design a quantitative study with colleagues working on research integrity at GEMASS, to analyze scientists’ understandings and practices of scientific integrity with a focus on AI. While policies and institutional frameworks on research integrity are increasingly formalized, less is known about how scientists perceive, interpret, and respond to scientific norms in their everyday work, and how they are supported by their institutions in research integrity.
A central dimension of the study concerns AI use in research. While designing the study, attention will be given to views on acceptable and problematic uses of AI tools, perceived risks, benefits, and implications for authorship, responsibility, transparency, and public trust in science, as well as AI embedment in institutional contexts, support and training of researchers. By situating AI-related practices within broader integrity cultures, the project will allow to better understand emerging normative tensions and uncertainties in contemporary research.
The mobility stay at the host institution GEMASS will be dedicated to the conceptual and methodological development of this project. The mobility will lay the groundwork for a larger comparative empirical study that adds to previous ones, and contribute to the ongoing debates on scientific integrity and responsible research in Europe, and the use of AI.
